2017 shaped up to be the most epic season yet for Tough Mudder: new obstacles, new events, new venues, new media. Same Tough Mudder spirit. So join us as we count down our biggest Mudder moments of 2017.
We launched a new breed of fun run: Tough Mudder 5K
Tough Mudder 5K is not your average fun run. With 10+ signature teamwork obstacles crammed into 5 wild kilometres, this Tough Mudder event is all the tough with none of the mud. There’s no timing chips or first-place medals, just a party on pavement with your team.
The first ever Tough Mudder 5K took part in Nashville, USA but in 2018 you’ll be able to try out Tough Mudder’s cousin in the city in four cities across the UK.
Mission Mudder got Underway
In 2017 Tough Mudder came to the small screen. Mudders across the country watched as six Olympic athletes took on the mud and madness that they eat for breakfast. Our Olympian’s journey culminated at the first ever Europe’s Toughest Mudder, which was a spectacle to behold…
Europe’s Toughest Mudder was Wet and Wild
For the very first time our 8 hour, overnight challenge, Toughest Mudder came to Europe, and what a night it was. OCR athletes, amatures, and Olympians ran side-by-side taking on a selection of our most intense obstacles in the cold and dark.
We Racked up Some Serious Numbers
This year saw Mudder Nation reach some serious mile stones in Europe. At Tough Mudder Yorkshire we saw our 3 millionth Mudder cross the finish line. Then, during Super September with multiple events in the UK and Germany upwards of 60,000 people hit the mud.
And if you cast your mind back all the way to May, you helped us celebrate our 5th birthday here in the UK.
A New World’s Toughest Category
This year we added a format that pitted teams of 4 or more from across the nations and across the world against each other in a strategic 24-hour competition. Up for grabs with this additional category within the National Team Relay competition was pride, a sweet trophy, and ultimate international bragging rights.
Our thought process: if the mud wasn’t enough to get you on course, maybe some metal (and no we’re not talking about King of Swingers) would be.
Coachified came to London
You know Coach, that super American guy with the weird moustache and huge thighs? Well, in 2017 it turned out he a UK correspondent, Robin. Robin took us out and about in London, showed us how to make the most of nature’s gym and went behind the scenes at Europe’s Toughest Mudder. Here’s hoping he makes a return next year.
